Grief & Loss

Grief Counselling Calgary

Grief is not a linear process. It is a deeply personal experience that can feel overwhelming, disorienting, and at times profoundly isolating — whether you are mourning the death of a loved one, the end of a relationship, or a significant life transition.

Your emotions are valid. Grief can show up as sadness, anger, numbness, confusion, anxiety, or even moments of unexpected relief. You do not have to carry this alone.

  • Process difficult emotions — sadness, anger, guilt, shock, or numbness
  • Develop coping strategies for managing daily life while grieving
  • Honour your connection and find meaningful ways to hold what was lost
  • Rebuild a sense of meaning, hope, and direction

Trauma Therapy

Trauma Counselling Calgary

Trauma can affect how you think, feel, and relate to yourself and others. You may feel overwhelmed, emotionally numb, anxious, disconnected, or stuck in patterns that are difficult to change. These responses are not signs of weakness — they are your nervous system's way of trying to protect you.

Trauma therapy at Free Soul Psychology provides a safe, supportive space to explore the impact of past experiences and begin healing at a pace that feels right for you.

Anxiety Therapy

Anxiety Counselling Calgary

Anxiety therapy here is not about "fixing" you — because you are not broken. It's about gently understanding the parts of you that feel overwhelmed, the thoughts that won't slow down, and the ways your body has learned to stay on high alert.

  • Constant overthinking or racing thoughts
  • Panic attacks or intense waves of anxiety
  • Social anxiety or fear of judgment
  • Perfectionism and pressure to "get it right"
  • Feeling on edge, restless, or unable to relax
  • Sleep difficulties and anxiety tied to trauma or life change

Depression Counselling

Depression Counselling Calgary

Depression is more than feeling sad. It can settle into how you think, how you relate to others, and how you experience your own life — making even small tasks feel impossibly heavy.

Therapy for depression at Free Soul Psychology is a supportive, non-judgmental space to understand what's driving the low mood, explore the thoughts and patterns keeping you stuck, and gently reconnect with energy, motivation, and meaning.

  • Persistent low mood, fatigue, or emptiness
  • Loss of interest in things that used to matter
  • Difficulty concentrating or making decisions
  • Withdrawal from relationships and daily life
  • Negative self-talk and feelings of worthlessness

Life Transitions

Life Transitions Therapy Calgary

Life transitions can feel disorienting — like the ground beneath you is shifting, even when the change is something you chose. A new career. A relationship ending or beginning. A move. A loss. A version of yourself you're outgrowing.

Even positive changes can bring uncertainty, overwhelm, and self-doubt. This is a space to slow down, process what's changing, and move forward in a way that feels aligned, not forced.

  • Career changes or feeling stuck in your work
  • Relationship changes — breakups, dating, shifting dynamics
  • Moving, relocation, or starting over
  • Identity shifts or questioning who you are
  • Feeling uncertain, directionless, or disconnected

Accelerated Resolution Therapy

ART — Rapid, Lasting Relief

Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART) is a brief, structured psychotherapy that helps people resolve distressing memories and symptoms by changing how those memories are stored in the brain. Unlike traditional talk therapy, ART is highly directive and uses eye movements and imagery rescripting to bring rapid relief.

ART is particularly effective for PTSD, trauma, phobias, grief, depression, anxiety, and other issues rooted in distressing experiences. Many clients notice significant change in just one to five sessions.

  • Effective for PTSD, trauma, and acute stress
  • Works without requiring detailed verbal retelling of trauma
  • Rapid results — typically 1–5 sessions per issue
  • Lasting relief with techniques you keep after therapy ends

Acceptance & Commitment Therapy

ACT — Living in Alignment

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) is a values-driven, mindfulness-based approach that teaches psychological flexibility — the ability to feel and think with openness, attend voluntarily to your experience, and move your life in directions that are truly important to you.

Rather than fighting difficult thoughts and emotions, ACT helps you change your relationship with them. The goal is a meaningful, vital life, not just the absence of suffering.

  • Develop mindful awareness of thoughts and feelings without struggle
  • Clarify your personal values and commit to aligned action
  • Build psychological flexibility and resilience
  • Reduce the dominance of unhelpful thought patterns

BPD Therapy

Borderline Personality Disorder Therapy

Living with BPD can mean intense emotional swings, unstable relationships, fear of abandonment, and a fractured sense of identity. These experiences are real, painful, and treatable. Therapy for BPD at Free Soul Psychology provides compassionate, skills-based support that meets you where you are.

The focus is on building greater emotional regulation, strengthening your sense of self, and creating more stable and satisfying relationships — at a pace that feels safe for you.

  • Emotional regulation and distress tolerance
  • Building a stable, coherent sense of identity
  • Reducing self-destructive patterns and impulsivity
  • Developing healthier relationship skills
  • Processing underlying trauma that often co-occurs with BPD

Attachment-Based Therapy

Attachment-Based Therapy

Our earliest relationships shape how we see ourselves and connect with others — often in ways we don't consciously realize. Attachment-based therapy explores the relational roots of your current patterns: the ways you seek closeness or pull away, the stories you carry about your own worth, and the fears that surface in relationships.

This approach is relational, warm, and deeply respectful of your lived experience. Healing relational wounds requires a safe relational space — which is exactly what therapy here aims to provide.

  • Difficulty trusting others or letting people in
  • Fear of abandonment or rejection in relationships
  • Patterns of anxious, avoidant, or disorganized attachment
  • Low self-worth rooted in early experiences
  • Struggles with emotional intimacy and vulnerability
